On 1 October 2020, Brikmakers implemented the ABBTF levy to all clay brick quotations and new orders.
ABBTF is a national, industry funded, not-for-profit organisation that was established to address the ongoing need for skilled bricklayers. The purpose of the ABBTF is to ensure that there is an adequate and competent workforce to support the demand for bricks and blocks as a sustainable and cost-effective construction material. ABBTF develops and maintains industry and community partnerships and programs, which are jointly funded by an industry contribution.
A small levy is applied to the sale of clay bricks matched dollar for dollar by leading brick manufacturers. The funds generated enable the ABBTF to Attract, Prepare, Place and Retain bricklaying apprentices to support the needs of industry as well as improving the overall image of bricklaying.
$1.50 per 1,000 for clay Standard Brick Equivalents (SBE) or $3.00 per 1,000 for clay two course bricks.
The levy is automatically added as a separate line item on the invoice by the participating manufacturer. The manufacturers send the levy and their matching contribution to ABBTF to fund the programs.
Please note that the levy does not apply to pavers, masonry blocks or landscaping products in Western Australia.
